British gambling giant William Hill has its eyes set on the American market. To gain a stronger presence on the US soil, the company recently launched a mobile sports betting app in Iowa.
A mobile betting experience
The new William Hill mobile sports betting app is available for download on Androids, iPhones, and iPads. One of the most prominent sportsbook operators in the world, William Hill is the first sports betting company that has started a mobile app for betting lovers in the state. The app is available for download on the company’s website. Once downloaded, they can complete registration, deposit an initial amount and start betting right from their smartphones.
William Hill US CEO Joe Asher commented on the new development, saying,
“We know Iowa sports fans are looking for both an in-person sports betting experience as well as the convenience of betting on their mobile devices. The William Hill Iowa app gives our customers the ability to access our full sports betting menu from anywhere in the state.”
He added that their team has been working on creating this platform for the last few months. He also said that he is proud of the work that his company has done.
The American dream
William Hill also opened four sportsbooks in the state of Iowa recently. Now, the Isle Casino Hotel Waterloo, Lakeside Hotel & Casino, Isle Casino Hotel Bettendorf, and Prairie Meadows Racetrack & Casino feature the company’s sportsbooks.
The British company entered the American market in Las Vegas in 2012 and Iowa is the ninth state in which it is expanding its business. The company has had a better environment to plan its sportsbooks strategically after PASPA was struck down by the US Supreme Court. Though there is no clear consensus on interstate operations of sportsbooks, more US states are opening up to the possibility of starting sports betting markets within their jurisdiction.
Some industry voices have demanded a federal law that could remove the chances of the patchworks of regulations that the companies have to go through right now. At the moment, different states are designing different regulatory environments for sports betting operators which creates unnecessary regulatory burdens. Moreover, there is a wide variety of taxes that the operators have to pay. Despite the shortcomings, foreign operators are trying to gain a firm footing in the American market.
