Apple Inc. has gained a lot of the tech world’s attention in recent weeks. As September approaches, the anticipated unveiling of the iPhone 7 takes center stage. The U.S. tech giant has made a tradition of dropping new releases over the Fall season and next month is rumored to hold two new editions to the Apple product line. The 2016 iPhone should debut on September 16th along with the second edition of the Apple Watch, according to rumors.
We don’t know much about the iPhone 7, but rumors and expert commentary have been filling online news reports. From what has been said about the product, iPhone fans can expect some changes they may like, and a few that might erk them. Either way, here’s a round up of the top five features you can expect from the iPhone 7.
1. A Faster iPhone
The iPhone 7 is expected to hold an upgraded A10 processor. It should be a significantly faster chip than the current A9 that features on the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. Coupled with the highly responsive iOS 10 software that is now ending its beta phase, users are sure to have an extremely fast handset at their disposal. The iPhone 7 may not be getting much of a face-lift, but Apple promises to make up for that by producing a real fast performer this time around.
2. Increased standard storage
We say goodbye to the 16GB iPhone this year. This is according to numerous reports that claim Apple is doing away with the old entry version product. The leading tech competitors of Tim Cook and co. are pushing out some very impressive smartphones. The likes of Samsung and Huawei are sure to give the iPhone 7 some challenges when it launches. These companies place cheaper 64GB products on the market as standard and equip them with expandable storage to boot. Bearing this, a 16GB iPhone has no room to compete.
The 16GB iPhone was a hit several years back. It wasn’t nearly as limiting as it is today either. In the age of 4K imagery though, and where a minute of standard video consumes around 200MB per minute, one can see how 16GB can be extremely tight. This is heightened by the fact that, on the iPhone, users have to make due with the space they have. Yes, the iPhone is known to have fixed storage and won’t be changing that anytime soon. Users shouldn’t expect expandable storage this time around, but can expect an entry model iPhone 7 of 32GB capacity.
3. Space Black for iPhone 7
This rumor is fan favorite but is only supported by gossip. Regardless, fans are hoping to see Space Black join the iPhone color arsenal this year. Renderings of the color make for a very appealing device. It is clear that iPhone fans crave a deep black option to chose from and the Space Black rumor appeals to that want. Renderings of the iPhone 7 in this color depict an alluring black device that does divert from the elegant look that Apple aims for with its gadgets. If the rumors are true, than Space Black, will join the popular Silver, Space Grey and Rose Gold.
4. A Waterproof iPhone 7
The most useful feature to be included in the iPhone 7 is said to be IP68 waterproofing. This means the iPhone can not only be submerged under water, but can be used while submerged too. Underwater selfies and… well, users will surely find other fun uses as well. This feature is long overdue on the iPhone though. Many premium handset makers started including this feature on their phones around 4 years ago and it has been expected of high-end cellphones ever since. Apple Inc. is late to the party but better late than never.
The firm appears to be giving in to the demands of its consumer base this time around by pushing out a more durable device. For years, the biggest Apple-related complaints have always been closely tied to the fragility of the products. You are more likely to find consensus among many iPhone users, who believe that the poor durability of their gadgets simply does match the price tag.
5. iPhone 7 Goes Audio Jackless
iPhone fans can be almost certain that this year’s gadget will be without the industry standard 3.5mm audio jack. This is the most talked about iPhone rumor in circulation. It is backed by a heap of supply chain leaks and comments too. The removal of the audio jack should help make the iPhone be more water and dust resistant. This is what experts say, but we suspect Apple Inc. merely wants to switch things up a bit.
No audio port means Tim Cook and co. can shave a few millimeters off the product as well, making this year’s iPhone thinner than the 6S range. Audio plug-in is expected to move to the lightning port where better sound can be derived. Alternatively, there should be some unique Bluetooth earsets available. These probably won’t come standard with the device though.
Bonus! – A 3rd iPhone
Another loose piece of talk is the arrival of a third iPhone. Fans could be choosing from three iPhone 7 versions this year. What it will be called is yet to be agreed on but iPhone 7 Pro is among these. The rumor isn’t too far fetched when you consider that Apple recently rolled out a third and larger sibling for the iPad range, the iPad Pro.
The arrival of this third and larger iPhone will see the device range split nicely into three levels. The iPhone 7 would be the entry model, the 7 Plus takes the mid-range position, while the 7 Pro rules the top end. Fans shouldn’t bet too much on this though. We should see just how far from the truth this bit of talk is in the coming weeks.
The iPhone 7 has been described as a very mild upgrade. Beyond the above, not much else should sparks excitement. At least, nothing we’ve heard of. There are talks of wireless charging and Smart Connect features but the weight of iPhone 7 news has been bland.
What are your thoughts on the device? Are you looking forward to upgrading to the Apple Inc. iPhone 7 this September, or will you consider other handset brands? Let us know in the comments below.
