Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) New York Stores Win Landmark Award

Aman Jain

Apple Inc. boasts some of the most incredible stores in New York City, some placed inside buildings dating back to the early 1900s. Apple has made these spaces beautiful, and in recognition of this, it will get an award next month from The New York Landmarks Conservancy – a non-profit that promotes the preservation of landmark buildings.

 Apple stores or historic monuments

Apple will receive the award on March 9 at the conservancy’s 2016 Chairman’s Award Luncheon. iFun was the first to spot the honor. The US firm has been “preserving, restoring, and repurposing notable historic structures” by building stores “marrying high tech and distinguished architecture,” and for this it will recognize Apple with its Chairman’s Award.

Apple Inc. has four stores in historic buildings – its W. 14th St. store, its SoHo store, its Upper East Side store, and its store inside of Grand Central. Those living or working in Manhattan might already be familiar with these Apple Stores. Many of these spaces are so much impressive that they can draw anyone in, even if they are not interested in shopping.

Apple’s Grand Central Terminal location is perhaps the most trafficked, and is located right at the center of the transportation hub. Every day 700,000 people pass through the station, as per the estimates. Apple’s Upper East Side Store located inside a remodeled bank is the newest of the recognized properties. Apple has kept intact most of the original features of the building including a bank fault that has now been turned into a VIP room.

 First product event of 2016

Apple appears all set to talk about its first product event of the year. The firm will hold a special media event on March 15, claims two independent reports (9to5 Mac reporter Marc Gurman and Buzzfeed’s John Paczkowski). It is expected that the firm will reveal a budget iPhone, an iPad Air, and a Watch update at the show.

As rumors suggest the phone will essentially be an upgraded version of the iPhone 5, and will come with a 4-inch screen making it easy to hold. It is expected that Apple Inc. will launch the new iPad Air 3 as well at the event. The iPad Air 3 is reported to include several features introduced in the iPad Pro last year such as a Smart Connector and better speakers.

Apple is also expected to unveil the first watch updates. Rumors say the firm will release new bands and software for the watch, but it won’t be overhauled in any way.
