Earlier this year, in May specifically, Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange in terms of volume, was hacked. At the time, it had lost $40 million in reserve funds. Then, hackers went after Binance again, trying to force the company to pay a ransom for information they had on users. Of course, it would be paid in Bitcoin.
However, while Binance came out today and noted that they’re still looking into the hack and how to resolve it, the platform is giving out free lifetime VIP memberships to anyone affected. Essentially, anyone who suffered from this is being given priority support, better trading fees, and additional services for free, for life.
Of course, this doesn’t mean everything is peachy, however.
For now, Binance claims that any stolen images are digitally altered with watermarks so that they can’t be used against the users. However, executives who have seen the images claim that some of these watermarks aren’t there, reports Decrypt.
In the meantime, however, Binance is letting those affected know about the situation and is advising that they take the time to change their government images and information so they can’t be attacked.
