Apple Inc. (AAPL) iOS 10 Delivers Nasty Surprises and Letdowns

Aman Jain

Apple Inc. introduced iOS 10 this week. The much anticipated iOS has a lot of upgrades over iOS 9, along with a few great features that some had been expecting for quite some time. However, there are some nasty surprises and letdowns that are included with iOS 10 as well. A report from Forbes by Gordon Kelly provides us with some details.

Apple Inc (AAPL) iOs 10

Easy access widgets

Apple’s decision to add widget support to some app icons and its lockscreen for 3D Touch enabled devices is one of the larger changes made in the iOS 10. However, the Cupertino-based giant ignored or just forgot at the time that it removed them from the notification center as well.

The widget in the notification center can look ungainly, but this also made them accessible everywhere. This was something handy for important information like calendar appointments.  Now, it is not possible with iOS 10, says Kelly.

Dark mode missing again

The iPhone users were expecting a dark mode to come with the iOS 10, but Apple did not deliver on those expectations. Dark mode has been high on the list of iOS and Android requests, and now the iPhone users will have to learn to live without it.

What really makes the omission so strange is that the smartphone maker used the event to announce a dark mode for the tvOS. The tvOS is an OS that the tech giant released in September 2015. To the long-suffering users of the nine-year-old iOS, this came as a huge disappointment.

Keyboard omissions

Apple Inc. made some good progress in the iOS with the iOS keyboard. Apple’s primary goal was to make it better at expecting the words you need by analyzing the way the user types. The tech giant was expected to catch up with the third-party iOS keyboards from Swiftkey and Google.

However, Apple keyboard misses out on far more primary and probably more useful functionality like one -handed mode and swipe typing despite. Both the functions have been in the keyboards of its competitors for many years.

Split keyboard typing was introduced by Apple a long time ago for its iPads. Now, its high time, the tech giant should give iPhones users the much-needed upgrade as well.

Other surprises from Apple

No file manager – the iPhone users may not require file manager, but the tech giant will need this as the iPad Pro line is trying to pull users from their laptops.

In the lockscreen, notifications have been upgraded, but Androids superior notification system is the biggest iOS weakness comparatively. And, it appears, we will have to wait another year.

However, the iOS 10 is still in beta, and Apple Inc. still has three months to fix some of these gaps before the release of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Pro/Plus.
