Apple Inc. iPhone 8 vs iPhone 7S: What’s the Difference?

Apple Inc. is rumored to release its highly-anticipated smartphone, dubbed the iPhone 8, in September. The 10th-anniversery premium handset is expected to be accompanied by two iPhone 7s models. The iPhone 8 is said to feature an edge-to-edge display, wireless charging, no home button, a vertical dual-camera setup, and augmented reality technology. If rumors are to be believed, the iPhone 8 will be completely different from iPhone 7S and 7S Plus.

iPhone 8 Rumors

The iPhone 8 is rumored to feature a 5.8-inch OLED display. The primary area will be 5.15 inches, while the rest of the space will be used for virtual buttons, according to Ming-Chi Kuo, the famous Apple analyst at KGI Securities.

An OLED (organic light-emitting diode) display is better than traditional LCDs. It doesn’t require the backlighting and offers better contrast ratio, colors, and viewing angles. At the same time, the organic light-emitting diode consumes less power compared to the LCD screen.

Kuo believes that the 10th-anniversevry phone would be the top-selling iPhone.

According to the rumors mill, the iPhone 8 will come without a physical home button. Apple is expected to relocate the button under the display surface.

The iPhone 8 is rumored to come with 64GB or 256GB of internal storage. The 10th-anniversevry handset might feature 3GB of RAM.

Rumors suggest that Apple will add 16MP rear cameras and 8MP front cameras to the iPhone 8.

The iPhone 8 may feature an IP68 water resistance rating, compared to the IP67 rating earned by the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus. The IP68 water resistance rating means that the smartphone could withstand 1.5 meters of water for up to 30 minutes.

The iPhone 8 is expected to be released in four colors: Silver, Golden, Grey and Rose Gold.

iPhone 7S Rumors

According to rumors, no major changes are expected in the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus. The iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus are expected to have the same design as last year’s models. However, rumors suggest that Apple could reduce the price to attract buyers.

The iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus are said to sport LCD displays instead of OLED screens. Original device manufacturer and Apple partner Wistron, an original design manufacturer in Taiwan and Apple partner, predicted that the iPhone 7S Plus will also feature the wireless charging technology. However, we believe that it’s highly unlikely to receive wireless charging.

Moreover, the iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S Plus are expected to come in a new color. A report from Macotakara suggested that Apple will release the iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S Plus in red color.

Also, the iPhone 7S lineup is said to get the new A11 chip, according to a report from DigiTimes. The phones are likely to arrive with 32GB, 128GB, and 256GB storage options.

The iPhone 7S is rumored to feature 3GB of RAM. Apple currently ships the iPhone 7 Plus with 3GB of RAM.

Augmented Reality and iPhone 8

One of the most exciting features of the iPhone 8 will be augmented reality (AR). Apple is betting big on AR. Earlier this year, the tech giant’s CEO Tim Cook said that AR is ‘a big idea like the smartphone.’

“I regard it as a big idea, like the smartphone. The smartphone is for everyone, we don’t have to think the iPhone is about a certain demographic, or country or vertical market: it’s for everyone. I think AR is that big, it’s huge. I get excited because of the things that could be done that could improve a lot of lives. And be entertaining,” Cook told The Independent.

Recently, Apple released ARKit, calling it “the largest AR platform in the world.” The platform will allow developers to bring AR experiences to iOS devices using iPhone and iPad.

Additionally, Apple said that no special equipment will be required by iOS users to take advantage of the AR features, thanks to ARKit’s integration within iOS.

A source with knowledge of the situation, though, told Fast Company that Apple is building a rear-facing 3D laser system on the back of the purported iPhone 8. The system will enable better depth detection for AR applications and a more precise type of autofocus for photography. The 3D sensors will be integrated into the vertically-aligned dual-cameras on the back of the iPhone 8, allowing more advanced AR capabilities, according to the report.

iPhone 8 and Apple Stock

iPhone is a major source of revenue for Apple, making up more than 60% of the company’s total revenue. The Cupertino-based firm seriously needs a hit iPhone to keep holding its top position in the premium smartphone market. Apple has been losing a share to Android-powered smartphones in the operating system market. During the quarter ending in March, the tech giant sold 50.76 million iPhones, versus 51.19 million units sold in the year-ago period.

Apple iPhone 8

Investors are optimistic about the iPhone 8. Apple’s shares are up more than 28% so far this year. This shows Wall Street’s confidence that the tech behemoth is preparing a hit iPhone model this year.

Apple Inc. is widely expected to unveil the iPhone 8 along with 4.7-inch iPhone 7s and 5.5-inch iPhone 7s Plus in September. However, reports claim that the iPhone 8 will be available to buyers in October or November because of setbacks related to both design and supply.

The iPhone 8 is expected to be sold for more than $1,000, according to reports from multiple sources including JP Morgan.
