Microsoft Corporation is working on Xbox Project Scorpio, which is touted as the most powerful console ever made by the company. Recently, Xbox chief Phil Spencer said in a tweet that Scorpio is making an amazing progress and “we are feeling good about schedule.” The Xbox Scorpio will feature 6 teraflops of GPU delivering a premier gaming experience including true 4K gaming and high-fidelity virtual reality. The console is scheduled to arrive at the end of next year.
Microsoft reported a 5% decrease in its gaming revenue for the quarter ended September 30. The company attributed the decrease to lower Xbox console revenue offset by higher Xbox software and services revenue. In August, Microsoft released the 2TB Xbox One S early August in select countries for $399. In addition, the tech titan introduced the Xbox One S in two versions – 500 gigabyte (GB) and 1 terabyte (TB) – at the end of August.
Let’s take a look at Xbox Scorpio features.
Xbox Scorpio Will Powerful Than Sony PS4
The Xbox Scorpio might be the last in the traditional console generation. The console will be a mid-generation upgrade to the Xbox One, according to Microsoft.
The Xbox Scorpio will offer eight CPU cores; over 320GB/s of memory bandwidth; six teraflops (TF) of GPU power; 4K gaming support; and VR support. The six teraflops of GPU will deliver a premier gaming experience including true 4K gaming and high-fidelity virtual reality.
The console will offer a great gaming experience, and will allow users to experience gaming in 4K. Reports suggest the console will offer a sizable leap over both the PS4 and PS4 Neo with much better graphical and memory capabilities.
The Xbox Scorpio will be about 50% more powerful than the PS4 Pro. It will feature six teraflops of GPU power, compared to 4.14 flops by the PS4 Pro.
Xbox marketing boss Aaron Greenberg said in an interview that the company sees Project Scorpio as a “premium product,” and it would be “a very high-end product.”
Spencer also said that gamers without 4K television won’t get the full experience of Project Scorpio. The gaming console “is designed as a 4K console, and if you don’t have a 4K TV, the benefit we’ve designed for, you’re not going to see,” he told EuroGamer.
Later, Spencer said that “some developers will take advantage of that 6 teraflops in different ways.” This means they won’t have to use the extra processing power to necessarily get 4K, and can channel it towards a better looking 1080p experience instead, according to EuroGamer.
Xbox rival Sony is set to unveil its most powerful gaming console, PlayStation 4 Pro or PS4 Pro, sometime next month. The PS4 Pro will allow games to run at 4K, and will have a 12-month time window to establish itself before the Xbox Scorpio is launched. The PS4 Pro will support 4K and HDR output. However, the console the console will only upscale games to 4K resolution instead of rendering them natively. The PS4 Pro will not feature an Ultra HD Blu-ray player.
Microsoft Xbox Scorpio Launch Date
Microsoft Corporation is expected to release the Xbox Scorpio in time for the holidays in 2017. The tech giant has yet to announce a final release date as well as the price or cost of its most powerful gaming console.
Moreover, there won’t be any Scorpio exclusives. According to the company, all games running on the Xbox One will work on the new console. Microsoft premiered a wide range of games launching this year and beyond for Xbox One and Windows 10, including a mix of exclusives, blockbusters and independent games.
