Microsoft (MSFT)’s Surface Phone Coming ‘Soon’ Will Crush iPhone Specs

September 14, 2016 By Victor Alagbe Leave a Comment Filed Under: News, Technology

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is serious about the Surface Phone contrary to what naysayers might what you to believe. Cyberspace is already abuzz with rumors about the potentially game-changing Surface Phone and skeptics think that the device is too good to be true. The skepticism is understandable. For one, rumors claim that the Surface Phone will run desktop Win32 apps. However, Microsoft Australia has confirmed that the Surface Phone will launch soon.

Microsoft Australia confirms the Surface Phone

On Monday, Microsoft Australia posted a tweet that confirmed that the Surface Phone is not a figment of our imagination. Interestingly, the social media team at the firm has deleted the tweet. The deletion of the tweet is not strange because the Surface team has done an incredible job of keeping a lid on the device. The screenshot of the tweet (see image below) shows the silhouette of the smartphone between the Surface Pro and the Surface Book.

Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) captions the image the “New One in Surface family” and the image is accompanied with a cryptic “soon”. Of course, “soon” is not definitive but it appears that the Surface Phone will make its debut much sooner than expected. The grapevine had earlier spread word that the Surface Phone will make its debut last week at about the same time that Apple unveiled its iPhone 7.

In fact, there has been a comparison between the specs of Apple’s iPhone 7 and the rumored specs of the Surface Phone. The comparison puts the Surface Phone miles ahead of the Apple’s iPhone 7 – that is if the Surface Phone debuts with its rumored specs.

Of course, it is no longer news that the Surface Phone didn’t make its debut in the same week as Apple’s iPhone 7. Now, observers expect the Surface Phone to make its debut sometimes in 2017. However, the aforementioned tweet suggests that the Surface Phone might make its debut much earlier than 2017.

Microsoft has ended production of the Lumia 950XL in the UK

Another fact that suggests that the Surface Phone will make its debut this year and not in 2017 is that Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) has ended the production of the Lumia 950XL in the UK. The firm might have also ended the production of other Lumia models and it might have discontinued the Lumia lines in other regions as well.

WinBeta reveals that it was unable to replace a Lumia 950XL from Microsoft UK because the order was rejected for lack of stock. In fact, the firm is reportedly shipping the last batch of its Lumia devices to stores and it plans to end sales by December 2016.

Microsoft has already ended the production of its Lumia devices and it will end sales by December 2016. It is logical to expect the firm to introduce the Surface Phone before the end of this year if it really plans to end sales of Lumia devices by December. Ending the sales of the Lumia lines without introducing a better replacement with the Surface Phone could send Microsoft into oblivion in the mobile device industry.

Sources also hints that Microsoft has almost completed work on the Surface Phone and the device might be unveiled during Microsoft’s October 2016 event. The Richmond giant seems to have completed work on the major specs of the Surface Phone and you can expect it to sport a capacitive 5.5″ touchscreen with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. The device would also sport IPS LCD, 534 PPI (pixel density), Corning Gorilla Glass 4 Protection. The Surface Phone will have an Adreno 430 GPU and an Octa core processor & Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC will power it.
