A German owner of a Tesla Model S P85 has set a new world record by driving his car for over 900,000 kilometers. He owns one of the oldest versions of the car and is expected to reach the 1,000,000-kilometer mark later this year.
Breaking the record
On July 14, Hansjorg Gemmingen posted two images of his car’s odometer showing that it had run 900,000 kilometers (approx. 559,350 miles), which help him set a new world record for mileage for any Tesla car. The car still retains its original motor but is running on its second battery pack. This itself is an incredible achievement for any car, especially the one which is about to cover 1 million kilometers on the road soon.
Interestingly, Gemmingen’s Model S has set the world record for highest mileage but not for the farthest travel. That record is still held by the Tesla Roadster that the company launched in space a few months ago. That car, piloted by a Starman has already traveled more than 1.1 billion kilometers. As is obvious, this would be a record that will remain unbroken.
Record-breaking streak
This is not the first time that Gemmingen has created a world record with his Tesla car. Earlier, he set the mileage record for the first-generation Roadster. He drove that car for 620,000 kilometers (approx. 385,251 miles). He now holds two top spots for the highest mileage for EV manufacturer’s cars. The Model X 90D comes in at number three with 598,282 kilometers (371,756 miles) on the odometer. Next up is a Model 3 LR RWD that has covered 115,578 kilometers (approx. 71.817 miles). Both these cars belong to Tesloop.
Cars by Elon Musk’s company are making headlines all over the world. Earlier this month, a Model 3 traveled 2,781 kilometers (approx. 1,728 miles) in 23 hours, breaking the 24-hour distance record for EVs. This new record was also set in Germany by Bjorn Nyland and his co-pilots. The previous record in this category was also set by a Model 3 that traveled for 2,644 kilometers in just 24-hours.
The event was live-streamed on YouTube as it took place in an A20 autobahn circular route located in northern Germany. The higher number of kilometers comes due to the increased driving speeds (the average speed was 116 km/h) allowed at the autobahn as well as the more powerful Ionity CCS charger that refills the battery more quickly.
