Tesla Motors Inc , in order to make better use of the time that the car owners spend charging their cars may add a car-wash system to its supercharger stations. And, if the information is true, it could cost the owners about $40 for each wash.
A premium car wash service from Tesla?
Tesla could charge $40 on every car wash but even owners of these luxury EVs might find that a bit expensive. There are a number of things a Tesla owner could do with the amount he/she would be spending for every wash. The owner could buy four months of Netflix access, a round of golf, 240 water bottles, a decent steak supper, and a full DVD series of Scooby-Doo.
Citing sources familiar with the matter, Electrek says Tesla is working to partner with Eco Green Auto Clean. The company asserts that it’s system leaves cars spotless and fresh using less than a cup of water per wash. The company uses microfiber towels, and a biodegradable wash shower. The company guarantees that the procedure is nature friendly and “designed to lift and dissolve dirt on contact.”
This could be a good initiative, considering water is a critical resource, particularly in California, which is still in a record-breaking drought. Not to forget, there are many Tesla cars in the region.
Tesla is trying to take away the one drawback of the Supercharger system i.e. standing around doing nothing for more than 30 minutes or so while your car gets a charge, and longer if there is line. Surprisingly, Supercharger stations don’t even provide a simple squeegee and water for windshield washing. If you ever see a Tesla parked at a gas station, it’s safe to assume it’s there to clean it’s windshield.
Could be a monthly subscription service
Tesla Motors Inc is currently experimenting the service at its supercharger station at the Fremont Factory, and if the reviews come out to be good, the service shall be launched soon at the other stations too, Electrek reports. As indicated by Electrek, the wash system could be subscription service in itself with costs being $80 a month for the Model S and $90 for the Model X. Ideally, the costs for the Model 3 would be somewhat less expensive. As of now, there has been no comment from the EV firm on the matter.
The decision solely rests upon Tesla Motors Inc whether or not to proceed with the project, but the fact is, it is still a great deal of cash to pay for some efficiency at the charging station.
For owners, who do not want to spend this much, and still want to kill their time could simply bring a work tablet, or a collection of their favorite shows.
Meanwhile, the EV firm verified that it is in talks with gas station chains to install its Superchargers alongside the fuel pumps. As per a spokesperson, the facilities that can help owners take a break while they re-charge are said to be essential in settling on the forthcoming locations.
