Watch a Tesla Motors Model S P100D Outrun a Ferrari and Hellcat: Video

Tesla Model 3 (TSLA)

Tesla Motors Inc made a name for itself  in the auto market by challenging top cars running on gas – and winning. CEO, Elon Musk had many points to prove In  the earliest days for Tesla’s emergence in the auto market. He has always felt the need to show that EVs are as fast as ICE cars.

YouTube is littered with hundreds of videos showing the first Roadster going up against Ferraris, Porsches, and even a BMW among others. The Roadster mostly won and Tesla earned a spot side-by-side ICE cars that were noted for speed and performance. Tesla fans didn’t rest after Musk proved his points and other cars such as the Model S and Model X have gone up against a whole host of ICE cars where rubber meets the road.

Tesla is causing massive changes in the auto market and traditional automakers have started building EVs in order to remain relevant. Yet, some fans of ICE cars won’t just give up and hand the crown over to Tesla. This article provides insight on two of Tesla Model S recent races against ICE cars.

Here’s how Tesla Model S P100D fared against Dodge Challenger Hellcat

In 2014, Tesla Motors Model S P85D went up in a drag race against Dodge Challenger Hellcat. The Model S had a combined 691 horsepower from its front and rear motors while the Hellcat had 707 horsepower from a 6.2L Supercharged HEMI V8. The race didn’t end well for the Hellcat as the P85D left thrashed the Hellcat to set a new ¼ mile world record.

Now, Dodge is back for a rematch and the video below shows a drag  race between Tesla Model S P100D and Dodge Challenger Hellcat.

The P100D packs more power than the P85D used two years ago with a combined 762 horsepower from its front and rear motors. The P100D had AWD and it was in Launch Mode for the race. The Hellcat has 707 horsepower from a 6.2L Supercharged HEMI V8. The Hellcat came to the race with drag radial tires, RWD with 8-speed automatic tranny, and hopefully a better driver. However, the race didn’t end well for the Hellcat this time around – same as two year ago. The Model S P100D won by 0.07 second to finish and it won by a massive .23 seconds in elapsed time.

Here’s how the Model S P100D fared against Ferrari 488 GTB Spider

Tesla Motors Model S P100D also went up against the Ferrari 488GTB Spider in a ¼ mile drag race as seen in the video above. The GTB Spider came to the race with 660 horsepower packed into a 3.9 L V8 twin turbo engine. The GTB also had RWD on a 7-speed manual tranny. The P100D had a combined 762 horsepower from its front and rear motors.

Tesla Motors Inc (TSLA) Model S Update

However, despite all the power packed into the GTB Spider, it still couldn’t win Tesla in the drag race. The Model S P100D ended the race in 10.835 seconds while the 488 GTB came in at 11.157 in elapsed time. The Model S is fast in launch mode, it is faster in Ludicrous Mode, and the Easter egg update coming this month could make the car much faster to do 0 to 60 mph in 2.4 seconds.
