Much of the hype surrounding Apple Inc. right now has to do with the iPhone 7. There is, however, an impressive amount of attention also directed at the smartphone’s 2017 edition. Yes, with an already huge arsenal of rumors under its belt, the iPhone 8 has raked in a lot of excitement. Even those who aren’t too fond of the firm’s gadgets are taking a liking to the phone. From what is being said about it, it stands to be a truly revolutionary product.
There isn’t anything official that can be said about the device. Apple is still trying to sort out the successful delivery of this year’s gadgets. Among them is the iPhone 7 and the Apple Watch 2, which have their own set of exciting qualities. But if rumors are anything to go by, and they’re usually spot-on with Apple, then the iPhone 8 will not only change the way we look at iPhones, but smartphones in general.
Apple tries OLED
The 2017 handset will mark Apple Inc.’s 10 year iPhone anniversary. As such, only a product fitting a decade of premium iPhone production will do. Reports speak of an OLED screen that runs edge-to-edge, an impressive A11 chip and wireless charging. Craziest of all, the upcoming device could have a glass body too.
Talks from Apple’s supply chain say that the Cupertino firm has pretty much dropped its traditional iPhone screen orders. They are to be replaced with OLED. This piece of display tech offers much better color, saves loads of power and even makes the device a lot more durable.
Apple is also breaking away from a lot of its traditional suppliers. There is clearly a huge conflict of interest in making your biggest competitor the maker of your own device’s key components. Bearing this, reports suggest that Samsung will soon have very little to do with producing Apple’s processors. With a load of court battles weighing on it their relationship, it is no surprise that Apple is exploring other options right now.
The A11 chip is said to be a huge step up in speed and efficiency. Sources say the majority of its production will be assignment to TSMC, which already has a large hand in this year’s iPhone chip production.
Apple swoops down on VR
The iPhone will have a few VR features too, allegedly. Virtual and augmented reality is growing in popularity. One need only look at the popular Pokemon GO to understand its place in mobile devices. There are many things that people can be certain of, and virtual reality is sure to play a huge part in the interaction of future generations. This is according to Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg himself, who is overseeing a number of VR developments for his own platforms.
Even Samsung has VR features instilled in its latest devices. Although, some think the company is moving a bit too quickly with the tech, which is only starting to gain the appeal of modern consumers. Rumors suggest that Apple sees 2017 as the VR sweet spot, thus the reported VR capabilities of the iPhone 8.
Glass Body iPhone
Lastly, it is said that the iPhone 8 will feature a glass body. This, of course is highly unlikely. By, “glass”, sources probably mean a very transparent acrylic form. It has long been rumored to be coming to the iPhone and it looks like the 10th Anniversary edition will finally flaunt the feature.
