Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) To Take On Google, Apple With Notify News App

Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) News

Facebook Inc might soon come up with its Notify news app, which is in the development phase for now. This app is intended to compete with rivals Apple and Google, both of which are offering the publishers with similar news-sharing platforms.

Notify news app – the next level of Instant Articles

Citing internal sources, a report from FT says the Facebook’s Notify news app will follow the news listing feature (Instant Articles) that the firm came up with in May. There were many mainstream media partners that initially had their presence on Instant Articles, and all of them will be on board, the report said. These partners comprise of various print, digital and video firms such as Vogue, Mashable, CNN and Washington Post.

Sometime next week, the app will go live on all major mobile platforms – Android and iOS most likely, the report said. The Notify app will take Instant Articles to the next level to deliver news in a fast and interactive form to the content publishers.

For Facebook’s Notify news app, Google and Apple are seen as a major threat. Google has its News & Weather app for both Android and iOS while Apple came up with its News app for the iOS earlier in the year, and is planning to launch an Android one soon.

Besides these tech giants, there are several other Internet firms that have plans of a news app. Twitter was seen making a similar move last month, when it rolled out Moments, which deliver top news to its users. But, Twitter is no threat as Facebook Inc has a much wider mobile user base.

Facebook joins its bigger tech rivals

Facebook on Wednesday joined the coveted $300bn club, making its presence felt to the rivals. However, at the close, its market cap came down below the mark. Apple leads the $300bn club with a market cap of over $680bn, followed by Google at over $500bn.

After the firm reported its quarterly results, the shares have been on an upward trend, and leading to a market cap of over $300bn. Facebook made a leap of 36% this year, showcasing the rise of tech in both public and private markets. The results showed that the firms mobile ad engine is doing really great.

On Wednesday, Facebook Inc shares closed up 1.33% at $103.94. In the last one-month, the stock is up almost 13%.
