Apple Inc. is expected to launch the iPhone 8 next year to celebrate the iPhone’s 10-year anniversary. KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who is highly reliable for Apple rumors, said in his latest report that next year’s iPhone models will have design similarities with the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s. Hopes are high for the iPhone 8, which is rumored to have a radical redesign, with an edge-to-edge display.
Front and Back Design Like iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s
Kuo claimed that the iPhone 8 could feature glass front and back design like the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s, 9to5Mac reported.
The analyst also forecasts that the 2017 iPhone models will use either a stainless steel or aluminum metal casing with higher end models likely to feature stainless steel. “This could again call back to the design of the iPhone 4 era but with a new effort to push customers to higher end models using differences in the metal,” according to the report.
Previously, KGI has forecasted that the iPhone 8 models will feature an all-glass design with latest report “emphasizing the likelihood based on further evidence.” Also, the firm has predicted that the iPhone 4-like design could introduce a larger 5.8-inches model.
Apple iPhone 8 Specs
Rumors suggest that the iPhone 8 will get a 10-nanometer A11 chip that will be both faster and more efficient. Reports also claim that the device will equipped with an OLED screen, long-range wireless charging and an all-glass body. The next year’s iPhone, according to observers, may come with virtual and augmented reality technology.
Sources – ranging from Apple’s supply to a number of top analysts – claim that the iPhone 8 will feature an OLED screen, which offers a bit more durability and is more flexible than LCD displays. In addition to reducing chance of scratches and screen cracks, OLED also provides better color contrasts for deeper and darker shades and more vibrant bright colors.
The iPhone 8 is rumored to get wireless charging and biometric features like facial recognition or an iris scanner.
In one of the iPhone 8 models, the tech giant may add a full curved glass case on the front with an AMOLED edge-to-edge display similar to the Galaxy S7 Edge, according to a report in Nikkei Asian Review. The interesting point here is that Samsung might be supplying the curved OLED displays for the iPhone 8.
Moreover, a report in Bloomberg News suggested that the iPhone maker may kill the iPhone’s iconic home button in 2017. The report said that the tech giant wants to replace the button with fingerprint sensors that would be built into the screen.
In absence of a Home button, what kind of functionality Apple is adding to the iPhone 8? According to a report published in Forbes, there’s still no idea what technology will replace the Home button in the iPhone 8. The report also suggested that the company would need to develop touch and display driver integration (TDDI) chips with “integrated fingerprint sensors.”
Apple hasn’t release any details about the iPhone 8. The new model is expected to make a debut in the fall of 2017.
