Apple Inc. is rumored to be readying an entire new iPhone with revolutionary features and specs. Fans and critics are excited about the new smartphone, dubbed as iPhone 8. Reports suggest that the device will with an all-glass body and a curved-edged display technology. The iPhone 8 is expected to be launched next year to celebrate the iPhone’s 10-year anniversary.
When will Apple release the iPhone 8?
As far as the iPhone 8 release date is concerned, there are mixed rumors. Some reports suggesting that the smartphone will be announced in August 2017 and will be released the following month. A report in Mirror claims that the iPhone 8 will be announced between the first and second week of September next year. And some reports are speculating that Apple may release the device on June 29, the same date when the first iPhone smartphone was launched more than nine years ago.
All-Glass Body, Full Curved Display, Other Specs
Apple Inc. is working to make the iPhone 8 innovative and revolutionary, according to reports. The company is worried about the declining iPhone sales. In wake of Google’s latest smartphone, Pixel and Pixel L, and Microsoft-rumored Surface Phone, the iPhone maker could introduce more surprising features in the 2017 iPhone.
The rumors mill suggest that the iPhone 8 will feature a 10-nanometer A11 chip that will be both faster and more efficient.
The new smartphone is rumored to have an OLED screen, long-range wireless charging and an all-glass body. The OLED is more flexible than LCD displays, offering a bit more durability. The OLED screen reduces chance of scratches and screen cracks, as well as provides better color contrasts for deeper and darker shades and more vibrant bright colors.
Other most exciting features of the iPhone 8 include wireless charging technology and facial recognition or an iris scanner.
Nikkei Asian Review reported that the iPhone maker is may add a full curved glass case in one of the iPhone 8 models on the front with an AMOLED edge-to-edge display similar to the Galaxy S7 Edge. The interesting point here is that Samsung might be supplying the curved OLED displays for the iPhone 8.
No Home Button
Apple is removing the iPhone’s iconic home button in the iPhone 8, according to a report in Bloomberg News.
The home button will be replaced with fingerprint sensors that would be built into the screen, according to the report.
If the report is true, there is no idea what technology is going to replace the home button in the iPhone 8. The company would need to develop touch and display driver integration (TDDI) chips with “integrated fingerprint sensors.”
Front, Back Design Like iPhone 4
KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo disclosed in his latest report that the iPhone 8 will have design similarities with the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s.
Kuo noted that the iPhone 8 could feature glass front and back design like the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s. The analyst forecasts the device will use either a stainless steel or aluminum metal casing with higher end models likely to feature stainless steel.
