Twitter Inc , which has been struggling to attract more users, has signed a deal with Sky Sports to show Premier League football videos this upcoming season. This deal is part of the company’s plans to stream live events and shows and attract more users. Showing live events will help the social media company to boost its revenue by attracting video advertisers. Under the agreement with Sky Sports, Twitter will stream top-flight Premier League highlights and goals.
Branded Premier League Clips
According to an article published on Sky News website, Twitter users in the UK and Ireland will be able to enjoy Premier League videos via the @SkyFootball account. The branded video clips will be available during the 2016/17 season. As you may already know, the Premier League is an English professional league for men’s association football clubs. The Premier League is the most-watched football league in the world, broadcast in 212 territories to 643 million homes and a potential TV audience of 4.7 billion people, according to Wikipedia.
Campaign Live reported that brands will be able to sponsor those Premier League video clips as part of Twitter’s Amplify sponsorship offering.
“We can’t think of a better way to continue the momentous summer of sport on Twitter than live Premier League video clips,” Twitter’s Theo Luke said. “Sky Sports are incredibly innovative on Twitter so it seemed like a natural fit to work with them to bring fans the most sought after action in sport, in an instant.”
David Gibbs, digital director of Sky Sports, commented: “We’re delighted to be working with Twitter to bring in-game clips to football fans across the UK and Ireland as part of our biggest ever season of football.”
“With more than 30 million users across a variety of platforms, Sky Sports is already the number one digital destination for sports in the UK. By expanding our partnership with Twitter, we can bring even more great action to an even bigger audience,” Gibbs added.
Twitter Inc sees big advertising opportunities in live video streaming. Aside from sports events, the company is also planning to stream entertainment and political videos and shows. The social media company is working on a video ad technology. It wants to build a system that can accurately verify who saw video ads and allow advertisers to pick audiences and setup their campaigns.
Financial position of the company seems good. For the second quarter, the company reported a revenue of $602 million, up 20% year-over-year.
Twitter Will Also Show More NBA Live Videos
The social media company expanded its partnership with the National Basketball Association (NBA) to show more live videos including highlights, press events and interviews.
The NBA will deliver a free live stream of a new weekly show on the social network. The association also plans to stream another show ahead of the 2016-17 season.
Under the Twitter’s Amplify program, the league will increase its content creation across the social network, Vine and Periscope. Amplify is a video advertising product, launched in 2013, allows broadcasters to publish real-time in-tweet video clips with pre-roll or post-roll advertisements.
NBA videos on Twitter will continue to include #NBARapidReplay highlights, #NBAVine highlights and behind-the-scenes footage, #PhantomCam player arrivals, plays of the game, animated GIFs, #NBAmixtape custom edits, “Day in the Life” takeovers and Periscope live streams of press conferences and interviews.
“Twitter is the fastest way to find out what’s happening in the NBA and to have a discussion about it,” Twitter Inc CEO Jack Dorsey stated.
