Tesla Inc ’s work environment is racially charged, sexually hostile and physically abusive, as per forty-four year old DeWitt Lambert – a production associate at Tesla’s Fremont factory. Lambert – an African-American – has filed a lawsuit against the firm charging it for the same.
Dream job turned out to be a nightmare
Lambert, who has filed 11-count suit against Tesla, stated that between summer 2015 and spring 2016, he was subjected to regular taunts with sexual and racial soubriquets by his colleagues. Also, these colleagues at Fremont facility made violent threats, and went on to place a drill gun in his buttocks.
It did not stop there as the colleagues stole his iPhone in 2015, and recorded a violent verbal rant against him on video. “This was my dream job and it turned into a nightmare,” Lambert said. Despite reporting the harassment cases, the EV firm did little to stop these miscreants, he said.
Following many complaints to the management, Lambert was shifted to a new shift, but the harassment continued, as per the lawsuit. A supervisor reprimanded him for eating a candy bar on the line even though just a couple of days back employees were sharing doughnuts and eating on the production floor. He was also rebuked for posting a photo of him in the factory.
In the suit filed against Tesla Inc , as well as, several other employees, Lambert has demanded compensation for the unspecified damages and legal fees. Larry Prgan – Lambert’s attorney stated that the date for the trial would be set sometime later next year.

Tesla spokesperson, however, stated that in their internal inquiry they found this group of people, who socialized outside the work and used off-color language, after which the friendship hit the bump. The EV firm also fired several workers taking action against the miscreants.
Tesla HR departments said the video incident happened in 2015, but Lambert came forward with it only in July 2016, during a meeting where he was getting, “final written warning for posting proprietary photos of Tesla equipment on social media against company policy.” The EV firm claims that the issue blew out of proportion because Lambert used N-word two times to refer a colleague in a Facebook message.
Lately, there have been various such incidents at the Fremont facility. Tesla Inc , however, denies the ever increasing complaints made by the unions about the conditions and pay, saying the company is doing everything possible to balance the growth. Just last year, the EV firm and contractor Eisenmann settled a case with the Slovenian worker, who suffered grave injuries while working on an expansion on a paint shop.
