Tesla Motors Inc Model S can be easily charged with a wireless charger from Plugless, showed a video this aftermarket wireless charging firm released on Thursday. The firm started taking deposits for the planned charger in February itself, and now, it has a final product to show off.
Charging Tesla Model S very easy now
Plugless is offering the Tesla Model S owners a way to create a drive-up wireless charging pad, which provides induction power via an add-on module installed on the Tesla itself. This part for the Model S owners is done by the network of Plugless installers, and the cost of it is included in the cost of purchase itself.
“Plugless has provided 500,000+ charging hours to everyday EV owners across the USA and Canada. Make life with your Tesla even more convenient and reliable — and your charging system as smart as your EV,” the firm says on its website. Charging with the Plugless charger is very easy. All that a user needs to do is park the Model S over the Plugless charger, giving a 7.2 kiloWatt charge. Plugless’ website states that it equates to around 20 miles of range per hour of charging.
The Plugless charger has been rated to withstand temperatures 0° to 122° Fahrenheit, making it ideal for customers living in cities with extreme weather. It has been rated for use either indoors or outdoors. This is a very different approach from Tesla Motors Inc ’s robotic snake charger, but it is probably more practical in the near-term.
Plugless taking full-responsibility
Tesla Motors Inc and Plugless do not have any official relationship, but despite that the add-on won’t affect owner’s warranty. Also, Plugless is strictly an aftermarket add-on, therefore, as long as it does not negatively affect the vehicle, there won’t be any effect on the warranty even. Also, the firm itself offers a three-year warranty covering the cost of any impact its system will have on the car.
Plugless will start shipping the charger priced at $2,440 – to the customers who pre-ordered them – in a few weeks as it is going to ramp up production this fall. “Enjoy reservation-holder-only pricing of $2440 (USD). Non-reservation pricing expected to be $3,290. Reservation period ends when shipments begin,” the firm says on its website.
Plugless’ charger for the Tesla Model S is compatible with rear-wheel drive Model S cars only, and the firm is working on all-wheel drive model compatibility. Plugless’ charger is not yet compatible with the Model X, Tesla Roadster and Model 3, but hopefully, they will be there in sometime.
Even after installing Plugless, the users will be able to use a hardwired charger, meaning that on occasions when the user is not near the Plugless charger, he/she will still be able to use the standard, wired charging port.
