The launch was scheduled for October 17, but on Sunday CEO Elon Musk announced that the company is moving the highly-anticipated product launch on October 19. About a week ago, Musk said in a tweet that the automaker is preparing launch a new product, which will be “unexpected for most.” Tesla will also hold a separate event on October 28 to launch a Tesla/SolarCity product.
Tesla is likely to introduce a new vehicle (many have been looking for a Roadster 2.0 launch) or announce improvements to its autonomous driving features. The automaker’s previous statements suggested that it is working on a new and improved self-driving technology. The company may announce a breakthrough to its self-driving tech.
Here are products rumored to be announce on Wednesday, according to Electrek.
The automaker is expected to make announcement related to new Autopilot hardware and feature. The company introduced the first generation Autopilot and the hardware suite in October 2014. The first major Autopilot software update was released a year ago in October 2015. With Autopilot 2.0, the automaker wants to improve the software. Earlier this year, Musk said that he would talk about Autopilot more “toward the end of the year”.
Part Two, Tesla Model 3
At the unveiling event earlier this year, Musk said that it was “Part 1” of the Model 3. He also made is clear that this will be a final or Part 2 which will include the final design of the vehicle, including an expected revamped interior, and details about the options available and the different trims, Electrek reported.
The company is expected to announce the Model 3 Part 2 on Wednesday. Tesla is planning to bring the Model 3 to production by the end of 2017.
Pickup, Heavy-Duty Truck, Bus
Tesla is likely to announce pickup trucks, heavy-duty truck, and bus at the event. These vehicles are part of Musk’s master plan, titled Master Plan, Part Deux. The plan also includes solar roofs with seamlessly integrated battery storage.
October 28 Launch Event
As we reported earlier, Tesla and SolarCity will unveil their solar roof on October 28. The companies will show an integrated second generation of the Tesla Powerwall energy storage solution, and a Tesla EV charger.
Tesla CEO and SolarCity Chairman Elon Musk has been dropping hints over the solar roof. At the same time, experts have been betting what the product will look like.
Earlier this year, Tesla had announced an offer for roughly $2.6 bn. The electric car maker is in the process of acquiring SolarCity. The deal has been facing some opposition from shareholders. Last month, four shareholders filed a lawsuit against the the company’s move. This may lead to delays in the transaction closing. However, the electric car maker never cleared if the upcoming unveiling event scheduled on October 28 will be pushed back or not. A little more than two months ago, it even hosted a conference call to discuss its acquisition of SolarCity.
