California based electric vehicles manufacturer, Tesla Motors Inc , has typically sold a small volume of vehicles, focusing on the high-end, luxury segment of the EV market. However, Tesla is increasing the number of cars that it sells, & on the 31/03/2016, the firm launched its first car aimed at the mass market, the Model 3. The Model 3 is inexpensive, with a starting price of just $35,000 (before any government incentives.)
A page about the Model 3 on Tesla’s official website provides further details on the new car, reading “Model 3 combines real world range, performance, safety and spaciousness into a premium sedan that only Tesla can build. Our most affordable car yet, Model 3 achieves 215 miles of range per charge while starting at only 35,000 USD before incentives. Model 3 is designed to attain the highest safety ratings in every category.”
The design of the Model 3, as shown in the above photo, is sleek and beautiful. The firm has already made design changes to the Model S, including the removal the front grill. But some owners of the original Model S are beginning to feel that their cool new EVs are already showing their age.
Tuning Market for Tesla Motors Inc (TSLA)’s EVs is Growing
The tuning market for Tesla Motors Inc’s EVs is growing in conjunction with the growth in sales. According to an article recently published on EVO, Voltes Design is now allowing UK customers to modify their Model S, changing its appearance. For example, the company offers custom rear diffusers & carbon fiber seat trims.
Founder of Voltes Design, David O’Connor said “Tesla performance is an eye-opener, but while it is true there are those who like the discreet design of the standard car, there are others who would prefer their Tesla to look more edgy.”
No Performance Upgrades in Voltes Tesla Motors Inc Tuning Packages
All of the upgrades & customizable parts that Voltes Design offers are purely aesthetical (they will have no influence on performance.) For example, the firm doesn’t offer upgraded engine or electric motor parts etc. Voltes doesn’t think that the Model S needs any performance upgrades, & David said that the vehicle has “super car performance.”
As the market closed on the 15/07/2016, Tesla Motors Inc’s stock was down by 0.51%, trading at $220.40 per share. The corporation’s market capitalization currently stands at $32.01 billion. The opening of Tesla’s Gigafactory is scheduled at the end of this month, & 12 Model 3 reservationists have been given “golden tickets”, inviting them to the opening.
