Apple Inc. ’s music service has nearly one-third premium subscribers than its rival service Spotify. Though Apple did score an initial win over Spotify with this news, soon Spotify equaled it. App trackers reported that Spotify app has finally managed to hit the top spot in the Apple App Store, says a report from Tech Times.
Beating Spotify won’t be easy
Even though Spotify hit a landmark with the top spot, this does not hamper Apple Music’s success anyhow. It simply provides evidence that Spotify has grown. Spotify has 20m music lovers, who are willing to pay for listening the music, and there are 55 million others, who stream the music for free and are ready to tolerate the ads.
Apple Music made a debut just few months back, and in such a less time it has amassed 15m total users of which 6.5m are paying. These figures revealed by Apple CEO Tim Cook on Monday do suggests that Apple Music has also hit success. “We have music experts, just like the DJ when we were growing up…that are deciding what’s next. It brings the art back in music,” Cook said.
Catching up with Spotify won’t be easy for Apple Inc. as it has a lot of distance to travel. Spotify does not seem to slow down either. Since the start of the year, Spotify has been somewhere close to the number three spot in the Apple App store in the US, and this month it managed to top the US’ charts for the most grossing apps.
Apple TV – to redefine user experience
Similar to Apple Music, Apple TV is also expected to hit success. A senior industry analyst at S&P Capital IQ and SNL, Angelo Zino, believe Apple is the only firm that can redefine the user experience in the living room. On Monday, at the WSJ event, Cook told the audience that he believes Apple will become the “foundation” of TV.
Zino said a new hardware and operating system indicate that the initial efforts are quite successful, and this is just a beginning. Commenting on Apple TV, the analyst said it won’t be a hit from the start, but would help the firm to come up with bigger things in the future.
“Siri capabilities overall will help the user experience, and on the operating side, Apple Inc. has the best app developers in the world. So expect great apps in the living room,” the analyst said.
