TCL, a Chinese firm which recently signed a deal to build new smartphone under the BlackBerry Ltd brand, is expected to unveil new multiple BlackBerry-branded devices in the near future. A report from Tech Crunch suggests that that the Chinese company might launch the new smartphones at CES in a couple of weeks.

BlackBerry is no more interested in making hardware. The Canadian tech giant is going to focus on software and security, an area in which it sees tremendous opportunities. The firm wants to become a global provider of a secure software for autonomous cars.

BlackBerry handsets failed to compete with Apple’s iPhones and Samsung’s Android devices, but the company’s highly-secured operating system is very appealing to government corporations and automakers including Ford.

Before talking about how the tech giant is planning to use its technology in cars, let’s take a look at the report about possible BlackBerry smartphones including the purported DTEK 70.

New BlackBerry Phones

TCL signed a deal to design, manufacture and sell branded mobile devices for the Canadian company.

In a statement issued Thursday, TCL said that it will reveal “an evolutionary first in the mobile industry, which will include the addition of the new BlackBerry brand of smartphones,” at CES 2017. TCL already has built BlackBerry’s final two hardware offerings, the DTEK 50 and DTEK 60.

“We’ll unveil more news at CES around our plans, showcasing the legacy of the BlackBerry smartphone brand, while also giving a glimpse into what new BlackBerry smartphones will offer as part of our bold new brand portfolio within TCT. These are just the building blocks of our new growth strategy, with additional announcements to come in 2017,” stated Steve Cistulli, president and general manager for TCL, North America.

The Canadian tech giant is said to be working on the DTEK70, an Android-powered smartphone which might be the one developed completely in-house. The DTEK70 will feature a QWERTY keyboard, show images appeared on the Chinese social network Weibo. The phone is expected to make a debut in the first quarter of 2017 (possibly at CES).

Recently, the Canadian tech giant plans signed an agreement with Ford Motor for use of its QNX automotive software in the automaker’s vehicles.

The Canadian tech firm holds expertise in securing the software and communications of multiples governments and global businesses. It has 70 approvals and certifications with all of the G7 governments, as well as holds a similar relationship with 16 members of the G20. The top 5 largest managed investment entities, oil, gas and healthcare companies trust the company to encrypt their software. In addition, the top 10 global banks and law firms do the same.

Recently, Credit Suisse analyst Kulbinder Garcha, who has an ‘underperform’ rating on BBRY, believes that as a software business, the company is not worth $4 billion.
