Will Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) Launch Surface Phone in March?

Microsoft Corporation (MSFT)

This week, a tweet from Microsoft Corporation Australia confirmed that the company is working on a completely new Surface Phone. The tweet, which was deleted by the company, included a promotional image teasing a “New One in Surface family.” Earlier reports suggested that the new smartphone from Microsoft will be launched this year. Now report are saying that the company has moved the launch date to next year. A report from Mobile & Apps suggests that the new Surface Phone will be launched in March 2017.

Surface Phone Features

Reports suggest that the Surface Phone would feature a 5.7-inch touchscreen with 2K resolution.  Powered by a Snapdragon 830 processor, the smartphone will sport a 20 megapixel rear camera with a Carl Zeiss lens. The phone will come with large storage space and RAM.

Leaked images show that the Surface Phone will have a keyboard cover allowing users to type in easy and stylish mode, similar to Surface Pro devices.

iTechPost reported that the Surface Phone will have an 8GB RAM and a Kaby Lake processor. The smartphones, likely to replace Microsoft’s Lumia smartphones, would get a Windows 10 Redstone operating system and Snapdragon 821 SoC.

The new Surface Phone will be the most secure phone, according to a report from Trusted Reviews.

A report published in The Christian Post suggests that the Surface Phone will run on Windows 10 and will offer productivity features like the Continuum.

There has been a comparison between the specs of Apple’s iPhone 7 and the rumored specs of the Surface Phone. The comparison puts the Surface Phone miles ahead of the Apple’s iPhone 7 – that is if the Surface Phone debuts with its rumored specs.

Good Bye To Microsoft Lumia Smartphones?

Microsoft has ended the production of its Lumia devices and is likely to end sales by December 2016. “Ending the sales of the Lumia lines without introducing a better replacement with the Surface Phone could send Microsoft into oblivion in the mobile device industry,” Victor Alagbe writes.

A report from iTechPost suggests that Microsoft Corporation might unveil the new smartphone during the company’s event in October 2016. The report said that the company seems to have completed work on the major specs of the Surface Phone.

The Surface Phone will sport IPS LCD, 534 PPI (pixel density), Corning Gorilla Glass 4 Protection. The device will come with Adreno 430 GPU, Octa core processor and Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC.

Microsoft Reforming Smartphone Business

In July, Microsoft Corporation said that it is closing its Finland mobile phone business, resulting in a loss of up to 1,350 jobs in the Nordic country. The troubled phone business was acquired by Microsoft for $7.2 billion from Finland-based Nokia in 2014.

At that time, the software giant said that it wants to streamline its smartphone hardware business. “We are focusing our phone efforts where we have differentiation — with enterprises that value security, manageability and our Continuum capability, and consumers who value the same,” CEO Satya Nadella said in a statement.
