The majority of investors that I speak with want to have a better understanding of the investing process but are not looking to become market junkies. If you count yourself in this category, then the below list is for you. There are 3 criteria needed to make it onto the below list.
1. Each of the blogs that you will find on this list write in a manner that the novice investor can understand.
2. One of the main themes of the blogs is to keep costs low.
3. You don’t have to read these blogs everyday in order to keep up.
Top 5 Investing Blogs
Oblivious Investor – Run by Mike Piper a CPA and author who focuses on low maintenance investing. In addition to his own posts, Mike also does a roundup of a few of the best posts from the personal finance space each week. So if you can only read one blog this is it.
Rick Ferri, CFA – Rick has published 6 books all on low cost investing. He is also the founder of Portfolio Solutions a firm devoted to helping investors setup low cost diversified investment portfolios.
Allan Roth – The founder of financial advisory Wealth Logic and writer whose goal is to “never be confused with Mad Money’s Jim Cramer.” In addition to providing simple advice on low cost investing, Allan also continually reminds his readers that they are on the right path with examples of what happens when you deviate from that path.
Larry Swedroe – Director of Research for the BAM Alliance a network of independant financial advisors with over 15,000 clients. Larry is also the author of 12 books on investing including The Only Guide to a Winning Bond Strategy You’ll Ever Need. Larry gives clear and concise explanations of the most talked about events in the market and how they may affect your specific situation.
BogleHeads – I am taking some liberty with the term “blog” here as Bogleheads is really a community with a free wiki and a forum focused on low cost investing. This is a great place to learn the basics, and then to go and ask questions when you can’t quickly find the answer elsewhere.
