Google Inc (GOOG)’s YouTube Growth “Accelerating” Facebook Inc (FB) Efforts

Google Inc  owned YouTube is seeing an “accelerating” growth even through a tough fight from Facebook and other service providers in the video segment, said YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki on Monday. The executive said that YouTube’s subscription music service will be coming online later this year.

Satisfied with growth

In a tech conference on Monday, Susan said, “We have an amazing base, we have over a billion users,” adding “Our watch time year on year is growing over 50%…It is still accelerating.”

Wojcicki was not ready to talk on YouTube’s revenues saying it is a subject of much speculation among the analysts, but clears “we are seeing really good growth.” Susan declared that she is very much satisfied with the rise in the number of users watching video on the YouTube, leaving it well-ahead of the rat-race despite the claims from Facebook Inc  that it is growing video views at a faster rate.

Goggle owned YouTube different from Facebook

YouTube’s CEO also indicated that watching video on Google  owned YouTube is qualitatively different from Facebook. She said, “Facebook views are different. They are in a feed. They are auto play,” while on YouTube, users are more active as they are actually clicking on the link.

Susan stressed on the vastness of the online video by terming it “a huge market,” popular among the young. So, seeing the potential of the market, it is no surprise that Facebook and other service providers are moving into this market. Highlighting the importance of YouTube she said that for the young audiences, the top stars are coming from YouTube and not from the Hollywood.

Music service soon

Susan said that Google owned YouTube will come out with a subscription music service later this year as the service is currently in beta-testing. Last year, the firm came up with a test version of its Music Key service. As YouTube has a large catalog and the video, it will surely give it an edge over rival services from Apple, Spotify, said Susan.

While talking on the features of the new service, she said that users will be able to watch music (videos) ad-free, along with enjoying music offline. Also, a new feature will be added to keep the music playing while users perform other tasks on their phones.

Susan declared “Mobile, mobile, mobile” as their top three priorities, and said the Google owned firm is working to better the feel for the users, who use the platform on their phones or tablets.
