Over recent years tech companies have been placed under scrutiny by concerned environmental groups regarding the use of environmentally friendly material in the making of devices. The effects of global warming and the depletion of resources used to make devices are cause for concern resulting in the calls to use environmentally friendly materials.
On Monday, Google announced that they would be making their products from recycled material from 2022 onwards. The announcement was made through the tech giant’s blog and stated that the 100% Made by Google products will contain recycled material in one form or another. This is good news for investors who are looking to buy Google stock.
We live in times where smartphones and other devices are being produced and replaced at a rapid rate, and all the old devices begin to pile up. By not utilizing the materials in these old smartphones, there is considerable waste being created, and tech companies have begun looking at ways to recycle these devices.
Google is not the first
While Google’s announcement might make its sound like the company has done what has never been done before, the opposite is true. Other companies such as Apple have been using recycled material in their products, and the company has a program which allows them to recycle old Apple devices. Apple also runs all of its facilities on renewable energy since 2018, and therefore, Google is following a path that has already been set.
It is also important to note that Google did not say that their devices will be made entirely from recycled material. The company is saying that some components in their devices from the year 2022 onwards will be produced from recycled material or will be recyclable themselves. The statement the company issued may be misconstrued as meaning that the company is planning to make complete devices from recycled material, which is far from the truth.
A step in the right direction
Google is late to the party, but what’s important is that they have taken a step in the right direction. Putting environmentally friendly measures in place is what should be the norm, and this might put Google in a position to be one of the best-automated investments on the market.
Some critics have pointed out that Google is only doing what is right now and that they are behind a number of their competitors. The other problem critics have with Google is that they have made an announcement which sounds like they have done something radical and yet they are behind the competition.
This move is likely to have a positive effect on the value of the tech Giant. It might be a good time to invest in Google as excellent PR will create positivity around Google.
