Apple Inc. ’s watch has superseded Rolex – the luxury watch brand – on a list of global luxury brands based on the results of NetBase – a analytics firm. The firm conducted a study of the social media mentions and consumer sentiments from more than 700 million posts between 2014 and 2015, says a report from BI.
Apple Watch – a luxury timepiece
Apple Watch was the only one representing the ‘Smartwatch’ club, and therefore, it took the golden crown in the Watch category. What’s more interesting is that Apple’s watch won the title after defeating the popular watchmakers like Tag Heuer, Richemont, Curren and Patek Phillippe.
However, as a firm Apple secured the 4th position while Chanel 4 bagged the title of the overall best luxury brand. Apple’s iPhone secured the 11th position while Apple Watch the 13th. The iPad could not make it to the list. It does not come as a surprise that Apple has been placed on a list of luxury brands, but the fact that it secured higher rank than Rolex is truly intriguing.
The reason people are preferring Apple Inc. ’s watch over Rolex could probably be because it is somewhat more useful than the latter. The notion being ‘What does a Rolex do for money it costs?’ and the answer is, being expensive is the only thing that Rolex Watches can do very well. For people, who wear watches just for the time, can anytime go for a cheap one, the report said.
On the other hand, Apple Watch can perform many functions, and could be your smartphone as well. Also, to make it more appealing, the firm is teaming up with high-end French designers for creating more models of the watch, and the former Burberry CEO is running the firms retail stores.
Apple Watch 2 not in March
Apple Inc. will hold a major unveiling event this March to roll-out several new products, but it seems that the much-awaited Apple Watch 2 will not be unveiled at the event. Recently, Mark Gurman of 9to5Mac suggested that Apple may not release its next-gen watch at this event, but would reveal it sometime later in 2016.
Just because Apple won’t release the Watch 2 at this event no how means that the firm has no plans on the smart watch front for this event. Apple plans of revealing new watch models at the event, but these won’t be second-gen devices. Instead, it will be releasing new iterations of the original Apple Watch with new colors, says Gurman.
