Apple Inc. is starting to draw a lot of the tech world’s focus as September comes into view. The highly discussed iPhone 7 series is among the tech firm’s biggest and most anticipated releases this year. The handset might be unveiled alongside another little gadget though — the next edition of the very popular Apple Watch.
Not much is known about the wrist gadget’s market performance. Indeed, it is perhaps the least officially discussed item in Apple’s product arsenal. Rumors, however, are not in the least bit lacking. And without any hints from Apple Inc., fans are left with very little choice but to indulge in some tech gossip, just to pass the time.
So what’s iPhone maker going to cram in its next Watch? There have been talks of a massive screen change, one that would make this piece of wearable tech unrivaled in its space. The product could actually be called the Apple Watch 2, but some sources are starting to suggest otherwise. It might also be a lot more durable by the looks of things, and come with some pretty nifty cellular capabilities as well.
Apple Watch Screen
MicroLED will allegedly feature as this year’s Apple Watch display. The tech giant bought LuxVue — a company making headway in MicroLED tech — two back in 2014. Since then, Apple has been relatively quiet about the acquisition. It seems that 2016 is the year Apple breaks out the tech and instills it in one of its devices.
If this is done, it would place the Watch far ahead of its competitors in terms of screen display. MicroLED is a fairly new kind of screen tech that is yet to make its way into the mass-market. They use less energy, allow for faster responses, and their color contract is much better than conventional LCD.
Apple Watch S
The public has pretty much agreed that the next generation of the Watch will be called the Apple Watch 2. It’s fairly logical point to arrive to. Reports have cropped up claiming something else, however. According to these, this year’s edition will be known as the Apple Watch S. Yes, the timepiece would be an S upgrade and not full jump.
Sources like Neil Cybart claim that the Cupertino company is still finding its way in the wearables space. There were a number of complaints about the current gadget and this year’s would mostly be addressing those, Cybart insists.
“Rather than pressing a reset button, Apple is systematically going through the Apple Watch business to fix friction points that developed over the first year. All of this is being done to position the device for improved adoption and a valuation much greater than $10 billion.”
More Durable Watch
Although some users claim to be able to swim with their Apple Watches without a fuss, it seems the device will have enhanced waterproofing. The durability of the product has been put into question quite a lot over the last 10 months. It is one of more recurrent complaint regarding most i-devices too. That is, their durability simply doesn’t match the high prices they go for.
Apple seems to be addressing the problem this year on both the Watch and the new iPhone, which will allegedly have some enhanced water resistance as well. It may no be much, but its step towards ending the annoying fragility of i-device.
Other rumors talk of cellular capabilities, a camera for selfies and video calls, and a some impressive GPS capabilities.
Second Watch is a tight secret
It would be ideal to bear in mind that all of these details are derived from other sources, who rely on expert comments and alleged leaks as well. The public has no official items to source, regarding the watch’s new feature. How the first watch is doing in the market is a company secret as well. The consumer tech giant simply refuses to share its performance, claiming it would only help rivals get ahead. Third-party reports have claimed Watch sales to rank between 10 to 30 million though.
Neil Cybart believes that the value of Apple’s Watch business is around $10 billion. The man is an expert company analyst and has followed Apple for years. Cybart is adamant that the product’s rising demand is expected to flow nicely into its second generation.
“Always already has a $10 billion Apple Watch business on its hands,” he reports. “This is even before all of the significant changes in WatchOS 3 were shown on stage at the WWDC.”
The watch is expected to come out this fall and should start at $299.
