Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) could launch a transparent screen phone display, as per a recent patent given to the firm. The technology could be a catalyst to Apple’s foray into the augmented reality. Within the patent, OLED screen was mentioned, a feature that has been rumored and has been confirmed by the sources as a part of the iPhone 8 on several occasions, notes Dailymail.
Transparent screen complements AR
The Patent reads, “One or more openings in the display may form a window through which a user of the device may view an external object.” Display pixels in the window region could be used for forming a heads-up display, the patent says.
Various features such as camera, ear speaker and light sensors will be beneath the screen. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has given hints of interest in AR before also. The iPhone maker is believed to be working with the Carl Zeiss on the augmented reality project, which could be shipped this year.
One of the Zeiss employees admitted the development that Apple and Carl Zeiss AG are working on a light version of AR glasses that could make its way to the stores next year, as per blogger Roberty Scoble, who leaked the information earlier this week.
Apple iPhone 8 to be the strongest
There was another rumor doing round earlier this week that technology used to design the new iPhone will be of a stainless steel forging process that brings together two reinforced glass panels supported by a metal frame. Chinese Newspaper Digitimes reported that the new components will be supplied by Foxconn.
DigiTimes stated that the metal bezel will be made of the stainless steel, in order, to bring down the cost and time. Further, the iPhone made with this process will pack more muscle, as per the Chinese daily. Not only the iPhone 8 will be sleeker, but Apple is also looking to bring glass panels on the front and the back. This will supposedly decrease the cost by 30% to 50%, notes Dailymail.
Stainless steel was the original metal alloy that was used on the iPhone 4 variants. This also means that the iPhone 8 will be one of the strongest iPhones from the company.
Will iPhone 8 be true edge to edge?
Curved screen and the edge to edge design are also expected to be seen in the iPhone 8. In another recent patent received by the Apple, edge to edge screen is also mentioned. Another patent titled ‘Electronic devices having displays with openings’ talks about the method that place the electronic component like speakers and camera beneath the screen, notes Dailymail.
AppleInsider notes that the openings on the screen will be so tiny that human eye won’t be able to notice it, giving a true edge to edge impression for the screen. The design will also enable Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) to fit various sensors inside the phone that could display information across the display.
