Apple Inc. Releases $300 Book Telling You How Great it is (AAPL)

Is this only an idea that Kramer could come up with? Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has released a new coffee table book that contains 450 images of its products. What is the price? $300! That’s right. You can spend a few hundred dollars to look at pictures of Apple’s products in a book called “Designed by Apple in California.” Has the world gone mad?

Imagine this: it’s Christmas morning. The coffee is brewing, the snowflakes are descending from the heavens and the family is gathered around the Christmas tree. Everyone, with large smiles, proceed to open their gifts. That one person in your life, who is a diehard Apple fan, unwraps a gift and sees a coffee table book that is filled with 450 photos of the tech titan’s products over the last 20 years.

It’s a Christmas miracle!

You may think this is a joke, but it isn’t. Ahead of the holiday shopping season, Apple has unveiled a new book that will be available to buy on Apple.com and in an array of Apple stores.

The coffee table book is hardcover and is bound in linen. It comes in two sizes: a 10.20″ x 12.75″ version for $199 and a 13″ x 16.25″ edition for $299.  The images were done by Andrew Zuckerman.

When you have run out of ideas for Christmas, you now have the option of buy “Designed by Apple in California.” As The Verge succinctly explained, it’s “a name that somehow manages to be both humble and incredibly pretentious at the same time.”

Jony Ive, Apple’s chief design officer, said in a press release that it’s a book to show Apple’s contribution to humanity.

“The idea of genuinely trying to make something great for humanity was Steve’s motivation from the beginning, and it remains both our ideal and our goal as Apple looks to the future,” said Ive. “This archive is intended to be a gentle gathering of many of the products the team has designed over the years. We hope it brings some understanding to how and why they exist, while serving as a resource for students of all design disciplines.”

You no longer have to buy your dad a tie anymore. You can just buy him this book that he didn’t know he always wanted.

Is Apple Inc a Pretentious Brand?

For years, Apple has been accused of being a pretentious brand. Everything from its products to its marketing, a lot of anti-Apple consumers detest how obnoxious and arrogant Apple can be at times.

A simple Google search will showcase the many complaints of how pretentious Apple really is.

In 2008, Macenstein accused Apple of launching a war on the word “the.” Some people disliked a Medium article that insisted that “opening the [Apple] box is an experience in itself.” Forbes posted an article entitled “Apple’s Arrogant Approach To The Latest Technology.” Ditto for Android Guys, which had an article called “Apple doesn’t know the difference between courage and arrogance.”

Apple is a great product and revolutionized the tech industry. But some consumers can’t stand the elitist attitude that the Apple brand maintains.

For now, many consumers will turn to the Samsung Galaxy, Microsoft Surface and Windows just so they don’t have to deal with Apple.
