“iOS 10 is our biggest release ever, with delightful new ways to express yourself in Messages, a native app for Home automation and beautifully redesigned apps for Music, Maps, and News that are more intuitive and more powerful, making everything you love about your iPhone and iPad even better,” Craig Federighi, senior vice president of software engineering at Apple, said in a statement.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) updated iMessage to make it more useful. It lets users to play a game during their chats, reserve a restaurant table, or buy movie tickets. This could help the company to sell more iPhones and iPads.

iMessage app appears to be attracting developers and companies. According to mobile analytics company SensorTower, about 400 apps currently are available from third-party companies on Apple’s App Store. Also, the store has another roughly 1,250 sticker packs, which include collections of images users can send in messages like emoji.

“The apps’ makers range from large companies like OpenTable and ESPN, to popular privately-held businesses like Airbnb, to even smaller startups like Dubsmash, whose app lets users record short lip-syncing videos,” according to the Fortune report.

The report also said that many startups are expected to rush to build apps. Can iMessage apps be a big business for all the companies jumping aboard? Still, there is no answer to this question. It’s too early to say about the success of iMessage apps.

“Some of the companies may already have mobile apps and will simply build an iMessage version. Other may create apps specifically for iMessage, betting that the demand in this virgin ground will be strong enough to keep their companies afloat,” the Fortune reads.

Building apps or creating services on someone else’s platform isn’t a free-risk business. There is “a potential downside for third party companies creating services on others’ platform. This is because “platform owners sometimes change their minds.”
