Apple Inc. AirPods are falling out of ears everywhere. A clever Twitter user devised a new method to make sure they will stay in place. Andrew Cornett tweeted a picture of himself, where he has inserted his AirPod into his pierced ear to keep it in place.
This (not fitting into ears) could be perhaps one of the biggest disadvantages of the much boasted about device from Apple, notes The Verge.
Apple AirPods – what’s lacking?
Apple acknowledged AirPod as a true foray into the wireless world. However, the claim does not seem to be very promising. While justifying the move to go wireless, Tim Cook said the wireless is the future. Cook said in the future, users will not need a jack because wires will be the thing of past.
To support the vision, the Cupertino-based company came up with four pairs of wireless headphones during this year’s iPhone event. All the headphones released were Beats- branded, but one hogged all the limelight. It was Apple’s much-hyped wireless earpod that costs $159 – called AirPods.
After a delay for few months, AirPod finally arrived, but they felt like a ‘first draft’ of that wireless technology future envisioned by Apple Inc. , notes The Verge’s Sean O’Kane. Those who have experienced hard time keeping the Earpods sticking to their ears will struggle with AirPods as well.
Comfortable, but does not fit well
Shape of the AirPod also differs slightly compared to EarPod. EarPods are slightly round in shape while AirPods is more contoured, which is why it scores a tad above Earpods when it comes to comfort. And this was why Apple said that AirPods will fit the ears more easily compared to EarPods.
However, the early reviews coming in have a different story to tell. The AirPods knock loose easily, and pose risk of falling somewhere. Apple, however, states that they have finalized the design after testing on thousands of ear shapes.
“The Verge’s senior editor Lauren Goode has almost no problem with them — she’s even been able to work out with AirPods with no troubles. But I can’t bring myself to be happy with AirPods because of this issue, and I’ve been looking forward to wireless earbuds for a while,” says The Verge’s Sean O’Kane.
Good technology, ok sound quality
Each AirPod receives its independent Bluetooth channel at the same time, and the W1 chip is there to sync the sound. This results in very low latency and also a consistent connection. The approach adopted by Apple Inc. has been avoided by every other wireless company, but it worked well for the company, notes The Verge.
Steve Kovach from Business Insider reviewed the voice quality of the AirPod, and concluded that Apple can do better than this. Kovach stated, “While the AirPods don’t sound as good as high-end, over-the-ear headphones, they sound just about the same as the wired EarPods that come with your iPhone.”
