A report from Mac World suggest that the company might introduce a Series 2 ‘S’ in March 2017. The new S version will add two extra storage options to the current 2GB Watch Series 2 line-up. The company is expected to release a 4GB and 8GB models to provide runners with less reliance on their iPhones. The Apple Watch Series 3 is expected to be launched in September 2017. Apple Watch 3 Rumors
Rumors suggest that the Watch Series 3 will feature a micro-LED display, according to a report from Tech Radar. It’s unlikely that the iPhone maker will any changes to the size or shape of the screen in the Watch Series 3, and the company is expected to keep the current 1.65-inch display. Apple is no more fan of LCD, and the company is planning to replace LCDs with OLEDs.
So it’s likely that the new watches will come with OLED screen. However, according to the Tech Radar article, Apple is said to be considering micro-LED panels for its next generation wearable. Micro-LED are brighter and more power efficient than OLED. The noted that, whatever the technology, changes are that the resolution will remain at 390 x 312.
Apple’s next generation wearable could come with a smart band. A company’s patent shows a smart fabric wristband that has ability to show the time or simple notifications.
Fans expect the Watch Series 3 to come with a camera. Apple was expected to add a camera in the current models, but it did not. The camera will allow users to make and receive FaceTime calls, so the rumors mill expects the company to introduce the camera in the Watch Series 3.
Moreover, the next-generation smartwatches are expected to come with improved battery life. The company was able to improve the battery life on the Watch 2, with a solid two days compared to the daily charge of the original series.
Apple Watch Leading Smartwatch Market
A report from ZD Net shows that Apple dominates the smartwatch market. Of 6.1 million smartwatches shipped in the third quarter, 2.8 million were Apple’s smartwatches, according to analyst group Canalys.
Canalys reported that, during the third quarter, the smartwatches shipment rose 60% compared to the last year.
However, IDC published completely different figures last month. The research firm reported that total smartwatch shipments for the third quart were 2.7 million units, down 51.6% from the 5.6 million units shipped in the same quarter last year. IDC noted that Apple shipped 1.1 million smartwatches in the quarter, versus 3.9 million shipped a year-ago.
Earlier, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that his company is the No. 2 watchmaker in the world by revenue. A report in The Motley Fool suggested that the iPhone maker sold somewhere between 5 million to 9 million watches in 2015.
