Electronic Arts Inc. (EA) Rival Blizzard Updates ‘Overwatch’ for Halloween

Hiren Mehta

Electronic Arts Inc. had tried to woo investors at the most recent annual meeting of stockholders. However, now as the holiday season nears, the typical game buying cycle awaits the firm. So now gaming firms need to go after players. It seems that rival Blizzard has already jumped in head first. In the new game mode, a team of four players is made up of Hanzo, McCree, Soldier: 76, and Ana. They have to prevent the castle door from being destroyed by Dr. Junkenstein’s legion of minions. Unlike other modes in “Overwatch,” this one is entirely PvE (“player versus environment”). This means you won’t be fighting against other players.

Electronic Arts Inc. Rival Adds 5 Mn Players in the Last 2 Months

International Business Times also wrote about the same via Yahoo! News. Overwatch unveiled a massive Halloween Terror update as it passed 20 mn players. Following weeks of leaks, Blizzard has unveiled its first Halloween-themed event for its popular FPS Overwatch. The event features new creepy costumes, sprays, a limited-time-only game mode and more. Dubbed Overwatch Halloween Terror, the event adds over 100 new cosmetic items that players can unlock. These come from in-game loot boxes that can be earned while playing or purchased with real money or in-game currency.

Electronic Arts (NASDAQ:EA)

Running through 1 November, the event covers a wide variety of Halloween-themed skins. It includes a Headless Horseman costume for Reaper and a witch outfit for healer Mercy. It also has new emotes, victory poses, profile icons and highlight intros. “Any Loot Box you earn or purchase from now until the event concludes will contain at least one item from our Halloween 2016 collection. This is like what happened with our previous events. The items include profile icons, sprays, victory poses, emotes, highlight intros, skins, and more,” Blizzard wrote in a blog post. “Once you’ve unlocked a Halloween item, it will be yours forever.

The event features the team-based shooter’s first ever co-op player vs environment (PvE) brawl as well, called Junkenstein’s Revenge. “Team up with three other players and face off against a host of eerie enemies, including Dr. Junkenstein himself, Junkenstein’s Monster, the Reaper, a mysterious witch, and host of shambling zomnics,” Blizzard wrote. Gamers can choose between Ana, Soldier: 76, Hanzo and McCree in the new brawl to battle it out. They need to fight against creepier versions of other existing Overwatch characters. These include Dr Junkenstein (Junkrat), the Reaper, Junkentein’s monster (Roadgof) a mysterious witch (Mercy) and a variety of other Zomnics.

Blizzard has also released the new Junkenstein digital comic. It reveals that Dr Jamison Junkenstein is “an inventor and scientist who was once employed by the Lord of Adlersbrunn”. The Halloween update contains multiple other features and tweaks including the addition of leaderboards. There is also a fix for poor connections in competitive mode, hero balancing tweaks and some aesthetic effect. This is as per Blizzard’s patch notes.

The firm announced that the beloved hero-based shooter has crossed the 20 mn player milestone. This has happened just under five months since its release to popular and critical acclaim in July. This figure means there are now more than 20 mn registered Overwatch accounts. It does not mean the game has sold 20 mn copies. Still, it is a significant feat for the game. This is because the developer announced that the game crossed 15 mn global players just two months ago. As far as Electronic Arts Inc. is concerned, we read about why its sales figures will be reported in a different manner. Overwatch’s Halloween Terror event is currently live for PS4, Xbox One and PC. It will run from 11 October through 1 November.

How to Beat the New ‘Overwatch’ Halloween Event on Hard Mode

Junkenstein’s Revenge is a great way to brush up on your aiming skills. It also mixes up the “Overwatch” formula in a fun way. It is easy to miss targets with Ana’s Healing Darts. But that said, it’s surprisingly tough. If you’re struggling to beat this new mode on the highest difficulty, an excellent video from YouTuber Jangular can help. It breaks down the structure of the entire mode from start to finish. It shows detailed gameplay video of suggested player positioning and how to take down bosses.

The strategy boils down to basically a sequence of steps. Hanzo climbs up to the ledge on the left side of the main door, sniping enemies from above. Soldier: 76 camps out in front of the door, clearing out Zomnics before they get too close. Ana and McCree hang out on the ledge to the right of the door. When Reaper spawns, Hanzo should drop down next to Soldier: 76.

At the same time, the former should fire his Ultimate down the center of the map. This will cause Reaper to go into Wraith Form in order to avoid it. Ana uses her Ultimate on McCree, who then uses his Ultimate. This should be fired off as soon as Reaper exits Wraith Form. Soldier: 76 uses his Ultimate as necessary to clear out Zomnics. Ana should attempt to use Sleep Dart on Dr. Junkenstein during boss fights to prevent him from raining down bombs. Have fun and be yourself. Also, don’t die.
