501(c)(3) Bonds – What They are and how they Work

501(c)(3) bonds501(c)(3) bonds (see also private activity bonds) are bonds issued by non profits who are also called 501(c)(3) because that is the section of the Internal Revenue Code that outlines the requirements for an organization to be considered non profit and therefore not subject to federal taxes.  The types of projects funded with 501(c)(3) bonds are not for profit hospitals and affordable housing.
