Google, a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG), is expected to introduce its next-generation Pixel 2 smartphone this year.
The search engine company launched two smartphones under the Pixel brand in October last year. The 100% made-by-Google phone features Google Assistant, a top-rated 12-megapixel camera, and a fast charging technology, among others.
The Pixel is available in two sizes: a 5-inch X model and a 5.5-inch XL model. According to Jay McGregor of Forbes, the Pixel XL was the best phone of 2016. A report from AFR described the Pixel XL a much better than the iPhone 7.
The tech world is now waiting for the update of the Pixel. The next-generation Pixel 2 might arrive this October with the cool camera and improved chipset.
Let’s take a look at rumors surfacing about the Pixel 2.
Google Pixel 2 Rumors
The Pixel 2 is expected to come with better water-proof technology.
Citing a reliable source, 9to5 Google reported that the company is focusing intensely on the camera and testing improved chipsets from two different manufacturers.
The source also told the publication that the Mountain View company is testing lower-end Pixel devices.
Google’s major focus is to improve the Pixel 2’s camera technology, according to the source. Specifically, the company is aiming to master low light photography with the next-generation device.
The next-generation Pixel 2’s camera will “not have large MP size,” but will rather “compensate in extra features,” 9to5 Google reported citing the source.
In addition, the source said that the search engine giant is testing multiple Pixel 2 models with improved chipsets. Some models are using Snapdragon 83X chips, while others have Intel chips.
Further, the company is testing a “few” prototypes of a device they referred to as “Pixel 2B”, which would is expected to be released either “alongside or shortly after Pixel 2.” This would be a lower-price device “aimed at different markets,” the source said, adding that the company is looking to bring the “Google experience and the Google Phone to emerging markets.”
Meanwhile, the source said that the company developed “a custom chipset for a test device.” However, the source was not sure whether this custom chipset is coming to the Pixel 2.
