Reports have emerged that at least 3 police officers have been shot dead in Baton Rouge, Louisiana today, as racial tensions continue to “boil over” in the States. 3 more police officers were injured in the shooting. Earlier this month, on the 05/07/2016, Alton Sterling, was shot & killed by police officers in Baton Rouge while he was restrained on the ground.
A few days later, the BRPD arrested 3 suspects, & uncovered plans to shoot on-duty police officers during protests & rallies. The police force seized several fire arms.
Governor of Louisiana Condemns Baton Rouge Shootings
According to a timeline of events provided by USA Today, the incident took place at around 8:40 AM.
At 12:06 PM (local time) today, the Governor of Louisiana, John Bel Edwards, condemned the violence in a statement. In his statement, John said “This is an unspeakable and unjustified attack on all of us at a time when we need unity and healing. Rest assured, every resource available to the state of Louisiana will be used to ensure the perpetrators are brought swiftly to justice.”
America is Moving Towards Racial Conflict
Tensions between blacks & whites, especially police officers, have been increasing for some time now, with several protests & clashes occurring over the past year or so. However, it seems that there has been a surge in racially motivated attacks against the police, with a similar attack in Dallas on the 07/07/2016.
It has recently emerged that the attacker in the Baton Rouge shooting today was a former marine, like the Dallas shooter. A website that tracks several conflicts in details, such as the Syrian Civil War, has recently added a section to its site where shootings in the USA are recorded.
America has hundreds of millions of licensed fire arms, with many more unlicensed weapons, sold on the black market. Therefore, it is not surprising that so many attacks, both racially or religiously motivated, are able to be coordinated.
